You don’t have to be skilled to get benefits from painting
Do you ever feel like your life is lacking purpose? Or like your entire purpose is for other people, such as a job or taking care of family? Finding a hobby you’re passionate about can help you find a purpose. Participating in a hobby can leave you feeling fulfilled and excited to learn and explore.
Painting is a great starting place if you’re not sure what you might enjoy doing. There are so many options to get you started, it doesn’t require much equipment, and there are a lot of directions you can go to expand your hobby in the future.
Every Saturday I am going to share a project with you. Once a month, at least for 2025 I will focus on different painting projects to give you a broad view of what you can do with painting without being an expert.
A watercolor coloring book is an excellent option to begin your painting journey. It doesn’t require you to have drawing skills or a creative imagination to produce beautiful paintings. You can either purchase a premade watercolor coloring book or get a pad of watercolor paper and print the images you’d like to paint.
In addition, you will need either a paint brush and a cup of water, or a water brush. I use both depending on what I am working on, but find that a water pen can be less messy and easier to use when I am limited on time and space. You will also need a simple watercolor palette. I have a Windsor and Newton palette, but you don’t need anything fancy to get started. You can get a cheap palette from Dollar Tree, Walmart, or Target. These may not be as pigmented, but are a great low cost way to explore the hobby. This may be a given, but a paper towel is must to clean your brush off. I like using reusable paper towels to cut down on waste, these will get stained over time, but still work just as well! Lastly, this is optional, but I recommend getting a small spray bottle to fill with water. You can use this to activate your paints or wet your paper.
If you decide to give painting a try, share your experience with us in the comments. I’m excited for you to embark on this journey with us!
